Upside Down

This is about two things: Storms … and Trust. Bet you think you know where this is going. You’d be wrong! First, a bit of background: I started this website in May 2011. I have subsequently changed its name, because of the direction it was starting to take. It used to be called “Financial Ruin to Recovery … Rags to Riches in Real Time”. There was a reason for that name, the main one being that it was exactly what the story was about! At the time I was in the process of losing everything. (I thought I had reached...

Belief

“I believe God can heal.” That statement is one I have heard from many born-again, Holy Spirit-filled Christians. As much as I do not wish to offend people, I feel that the truth needs to be told. “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). This verse must mean that knowing the truth is important to God. How can it mean anything else?! One day I want to write about “understanding” (or knowing). The subject is found almost everywhere in the Bible. Someone once said to me, “We don’t know the mind of God!”...

Conspiracy Theory

March 22, 2013

On self-examination, I could easily be classified as a conspiracy theorist … Throughout my life, I have always leaned towards “Anti-Establishment” tendencies. At least, I’ve been accused of doing so! There is, perhaps an element of truth in that, but I wouldn’t by any stretch of the imagination put myself in the tinfoil-hat category. I am simply inherently suspicious. I have an insatiable hunger for truth. And I cannot help it! It’s either the way I was created, or it’s been put in me. Or both. There is no shortage of conspiracy theories to keep the budding conspiracy theorist...

Pain, Deep Pain.

If you’re familiar with my story, you’ll know that this blog was started around the time I was busy losing all my worldly possessions. I then went on to successfully complete that particular mission (of losing all my worldly possessions). This blog was meant to chronicle in real-time how I was going to recover. The original title was “Financial Ruin to Recovery … Rags to Riches in Real Time”. It’s kind of achieved that. And more. It got a lot worse before it got better. I now have a steady job. I have a roof over my head, which...

Young man

I was just having one of those existential moments … … You know those moments, when you are all alone with your thoughts? You’re not thinking of anything in particular. Not panicking. Not worrying. Not exactly jubilant about anything. Just a flat moment. In those moments, my mind either goes forward, or it goes back. This time it went back. Usually it goes forward and usually it only goes back during times of self-hatred – back to when I used to be nice! This time it went back in a completely neutral attitude. It asked me the question, “Who are...

Parents and Children

Last night, I went to my son, Cameron’s parent-teacher meeting. This is when you go round all (well, most) of the subject teachers (sitting awkwardly behind inadequate desks in the main assembly hall) for five minutes a pop and they tell you how your little darling is getting on, in (their second year in) the big, bad world of high school. Art. History. Maths. English. Geography. And so on. And on. Now, if you’ve read Defying Logic and David and Goliath, you’ll have been introduced to Cameron Muller. Cameron is now 12 (and a half). This is not another sickeningly sweet...
